ABOUT

I am stoked you made it to my page.

Let me introduce myself—My name is Georgia Tinsley; I am your typical 21-year-old looking to find her place in the world, living through the everyday struggles of what I call ~life~. I have two younger brothers which has made me both a leader and team player along with two amazing parents whom I owe everything to. On the weekends, I like to hang out with my friends and explore the unique burrows of D.C., whether it be a new coffee shop or a local boutique. I have a knack for sports, art, and design. At the same time, I am a people person and appreciate the opportunities combining my passions have opened up for me. I hope my little corner of the internet will inspire you to appreciate the beauty, individuality and confidence design can provide. Whether it was a wrong click or you are actually interested in my life… welcome.

MY STORY

IMG_0436.JPG

Throughout high school years, soccer was my life as I played for my high school (Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Maryland state, North Eastern regional, and McLean ECNL club teams. I would go from practice to practice doing my homework in between and quickly learned the value of time management. In my junior year of high school, I took a three week trip to Costa Rica to play the Costa Rican National team. Here is where I realized how a sport and artwork could unify people, no matter the language barriers, or frankly any differences. Abstract art filled the cities’ streets and almost made me forget about the extreme poverty these sellers were living in yet their grit and self-promotion inspired me to take some of these qualities back home.

Senior year, I took an art class where I put my creative skills to the test. I loved it because it gave me ‘me time’, something I rarely got as I was always on the field with my team or at home helping with chores or chauffeuring my brothers around. Being the yearbook design editor was a supplement to this free-flowing side of me as I got to combine my social personality with art design to create spreads that were ultimately bigger than myself and thousands of people would read. It made me feel connected to the student body at such a big public school and I learned the basics of Adobe applications like InDesign and Photoshop.

Sadly, I knew I was not good enough to make a living off my art skills and the sacrifices I made for soccer made me feel burnt out. I decided to step away from both and attend the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business in Tuscaloosa. I loved the food, people and school passion (Roll Tide) but at the end of the day I realized the routine I used to hate so much, I actually really needed!! I decided to transfer home to the University of Maryland, College Park.

Come full circle, I am now back to doing what I love and the happiest I have ever been. I am in the Robert H. Smith School of Business and still involved with sports on Terp’s Club soccer and in the Sports Business Society. I am also 1 of the 30 students selected to be in the Design and Fellowship Program. This is an intense curriculum of classes and activities surrounded around the idea of making strategically sound and creative design decisions challenging students in product design, graphics, and UX/UI design.
